Hakka punk from the Mountain City 客家山城的龐克 - 粹垢 TRAEGO | 2025 Vancouver TAIWANfest

The Taiwan you know may be an island of night markets, bubble tea, and advanced technology. But on the edge of the island, there is a mountain town called Miaoli, where a group of simple and conservative people speak in Hakka.

TRAEGO is a Hakka punk band from Miaoli, and the first punk band in Taiwan to sing in Hakka. Their debut album Pure Filth captures the dissatisfaction of today’s youths with life, their love for the land, and their rants against the absurdity of society. In this talk, they will talk about language, culture, anger, and how Hakka Punk speaks up from beyond the mainstream!

你所認識的臺灣，可能是夜市、珍奶、科技島。但在這座島嶼的邊緣，有個叫苗栗的山城，住著一群用客語說話，且性格純樸保守的人。

粹垢 TRAEGO，是來自苗栗的客語龐克樂團，也是臺灣史上第一支以全客語創作的龐克樂團。首張專輯《純粹污垢》收錄了底層青年對生活的不滿、對土地的愛恨、以及對社會荒謬的咆哮。在這場演講中，他們將談語言、談文化、談憤怒、談客家龐克如何從邊緣發聲！
